Common kitchen mistakes that make your life harder

The kitchen triangle is a fundamental layout principle that connects the cooktop, sink, and refrigerator in a smooth, functional flow. Without this triangle, the kitchen can feel cramped, inefficient, and tiring to use. It ensures that movement between the key work areas is quick and natural, reducing unnecessary steps and improving overall usability in everyday tasks.

For a functional layout, all three legs of the triangle should be close in size to keep movement efficient and balanced. Each leg should ideally fall be tween 1200 mm to 2740 mm (4 to 9 feet). The total sum of all three legs should not exceed 8230 mm (27 feet).

Kitchen triangle workflow -

For an efficient kitchen workflow, the sink should be placed at the center of the work triangle. This follows the natural sequence where you take food from the refrigerator, move to the sink for washing or preparation, and then continue to the cooktop for cooking.

Dishwasher and Sink -

Many people place the dishwasher right under the sink without thinking about how it opens and functions. This often leads to water spilling on the floor while transferring dishes and creates an awkward, cramped space that makes loading and unloading harder. A better solution is to shift the dishwasher just after the sink drainer. This way, you can rinse the dishes, let the water drain off naturally, and then easily load them without any mess.

Kitchen Clearance -

914 mm aisle feels tight, especially when appliances open, increase it to 1066 mm or 1220 mm for comfortable two person use, and keep 508 mm in front of the dishwasher for smooth access.
